What a year! 2020, you were definitely unexpected! I know for many of us, myself included, 2020 took a toll on us and for multiple reasons perhaps. I had to experience some things I never thought I would and it honestly brings tears to my eyes just writing this. I am also reminded of the people around me that also struggled with different things. While it was not easy, there is still a lot to reflect on and there is a lot to never take for granted.
People: We all long for people in our lives. It's in our human nature. Having to quarantine or see people while social distancing makes us realize how much our people mean to us. Throughout this new year, may we be as present as we can for those people, even if we are physically apart. I hope you take the time today to reach out to others and wish them a happy new year, shower them in blessings, give them the extra boost to start this new year with hope for the future.
Community: Community is everywhere and it is also something that we long for. Whether it's your church community, college community, a small group, your work community, etc. May we never forget how strong we are united and together, and may we continue to fight injustices as we enter this new year as it is not yet a thing of the past. Together, change can be made. If you are not already part of a community of people that you can share and learn with, I encourage you to look for your community of people to trust and confide in.
Family: Our family. Personally, this one hits home. I hope that for many people, quarantine might have mended and reunited some of these bonds. While I must realize that not everyone goes home to a happy and safe environment, I hope that ties with your family got stronger. We need each other, and family is everything. Don't let this new year start without showing your love and appreciation for them.
Life: Literally life, the act of living and being alive. This is also another one that hits home because I did experience seeing the effects of Covid-19 on people I know and the the loss of someone I knew. So many people passed away too soon due to Covid-19. Do not take life for granted. Live it fully, but more importantly, live it purposefully.
I think if there is any "word of the year" out there for 2020, it would be change. We learned to manage, cope, and experience change.
And now, we welcome a 2021 that we all hope will look very different. I hope that despite anything you have experienced, that you go into this year with a motivated mindset. Know that you have it in you to conquer this year and its highs and lows. Remember, to always make the best out of what you have. Live life fully.
