The power of storytelling is something very important to all of us humans.
True story, I would always get so mad about the fact that the name for my major was changed to what I still think sounds like the dumbest name for a major: Digital Storytelling. I wondered why they couldn't just leave it as it was: Visual Communications.
After all, nothing changed about it (classes, requirements, etc.), it was all the same. I can't lie, I am still salty about it, but moving along...
I have now allowed for this name to grow on me. It's not a good name, it does not sound too intriguing if you ask me, but I learned to like it more. Time after time, I have learned how truly powerful storytelling can be.
We all have a story. Everyone's is uniquely different. That is what makes it special.
It is in actively telling our stories that we learn those stories have impact. In the moment, maybe they changed you as a person, but when you share them... you realize the power of telling your story.
Your story has the ability to change someones perspective. Your story could save someone today. Sharing your story can be what someone needs to hear. Your story has the power to inspire.
Like many people, I always find it difficult to share my story. It takes me a long time to get there, to truly talk about those things I burry deep inside. People do not always stick around long enough to see or learn those things, but I have seen the power of what it does when I share them to someone who might be going through something.
It is something that has allowed me to share a little more on different platform. Big or small, it does not matter what it is, your story matters. Never think any differently of it.
Everything you have gone through, there is a reason for.
It has made you, you.
It has mended you and changed you.
It has most likely opened your eyes to new things.
It is your story.
Your story to tell the world.
Your story that has power.
So my only encouragement to you today, is that although sometimes it is uncomfortable, learn to share your story. It does not have to be your full story, but snippets and parts of your story, they are more significant than you might think. Someone out there needs to hear your story, there is power in your story. Use it wisely and diligently, be a vessel for someone else's story.
