God wants our full obedience. When we choose to commit to Him and accept Him as our Savior, we are making a decision to follow the life and path He has for us. That requires obedience and might also require discipline to turn away from things that we once used to do.
Deuteronomy 11:1
Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.
I read a quote that says, "Do not ask God to guide your footsteps... if you're not willing to move your feet." God will require of us things that are uncomfortable, things that might be difficult, and things that we may not want to do.
That is where obedience comes in. Our faith will be tested many times and so will our obedience. There have honestly been a lot of times in which I have held off on something I knew God was telling me to do.
The more I did what I knew was right, the more I learned that I must be obedient because this is not about me. Whenever I finally did what I knew was right, I saw the fruit it produced in someone else. At the end of the day, we know nothing. We must trust God even when we don't understand why He might be leading us to do certain things. We must be obedient if we claim to be Children of God called to make His name known.
James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word of God, and so deceive yourself. Do what it says.
